CU commit Tyler Long became the second Coloradan to win an AJGA title this month when he won the Colorado Springs Junior.

It’s unusual for someone from Colorado to win an AJGA title, and it’s extremely unusual for two golfers from the Centennial State to claim AJGA trophies in the same seven-day period.
But something happened this month when two local junior golfers won in their hometowns.
Seven days after Boulder’s Miles Kuhl won the boys’ title at the AJGA Colorado Junior at Walnut Creek in Westminster, Evergreen’s Tyler Long accomplished the same feat Thursday at the Colorado Springs Junior at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course in Fort Carson. Long has verbally committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Colorado starting in the fall of 2025.
After taking third place at Walnut Creek, Long finished 1-2 with a one-stroke victory over Gavin Amera of Castle Rock, Colo. Long had one eagle, 14 birdies and four bogeys over the three days for a total of 12-under-par with shots of 69-64-71. It was Long’s first AJGA victory.
“I feel really good,” Long told AJGA.org. “I’ve been close a few times to the final group but never got it done. I’m just happy I got it done this time.”
Long becomes the first Coloradan to win a Colorado-based AJGA event since 2017, joining Kuhl (2024), Erie’s Hadley Ashton (2022), Fort Collins’ Owen Kornmesser (2021), Snowmass Village’s Jack Hughes (2019), Fort Collins’ Dillon Stewart (2018) and Erie’s Haley Schalk (2017).
Janna Singh (71-70-69) of Elk Grove, Calif., won the girls’ division by four strokes. Topping the girls’ division in Colorado was Addison Hines of Arvada, who finished in 12th place with scores of 73-74-74.
