LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The rain will move eastward, keeping things calm and cloudy for most of Saturday before sunny, cooler weather returns on Sunday.
Widespread rain fell this morning, with most areas receiving nearly an inch of rain, but locations near Jackson, Michigan received totals approaching 2 inches. Due to this heavy rain, a Flood Watch has been issued until 11:45 AM for portions of southcentral and southwestern Michigan, including Calhoun, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson and Barry. Further rainfall could cause flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.
Most of the rain that fell this morning has moved eastward, leaving skies partly cloudy and humid. Temperatures will be in the low 70s F with dew points in the upper 60s F, making it feel tropical and humid across Mid-Michigan. Temperatures will warm into the low to mid 80s F with partly to mostly cloudy skies remaining throughout the day.
There may be some clearing in the afternoon that could lead to a sudden thunderstorm near the Michigan-Ohio border, so keep an eye on the skies this afternoon and stay alerted through multiple channels. If storms develop, they could bring gusty winds and small hail. Skies will be partly cloudy through tonight with temperatures in the mid 50s F.
High pressure will move in next week and keep northeasterly winds moving in, bringing in cooler, drier air Sunday and Monday before turning more seasonal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pack your sunglasses and sunscreen as Sunday will see plenty of sunshine with daytime temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s F and overnight lows dropping into the upper 40s to low 50s F.
High pressure will shift slightly east through Tuesday, bringing winds out of the south, which will keep temperatures closer to average for the rest of the week, in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit.
The Fourth of July holiday will likely be dry with temperatures in the low 80s F, but with rain around the holiday, we will continue to monitor the forecast for any chance of rain returning on Thursday.
