JALANDHAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday continued his scathing attack on the Hindu bloc, saying the “balloon” of the Opposition alliance has burst and nobody wants to vote for it.

Addressing a Lok Sabha election rally in Jalandhar, his third in Punjab this election season, PM Modi pointed out that five phases of voting are going on in the country with the sixth phase set to take place on Saturday once campaigning ends.

The Prime Minister also addressed a rally in Gurdaspur district on the same day.The first Lok Sabha election rally in Punjab was held in Patiala on Thursday.

“Their balloon has burst,” Modi said, adding that no one wanted to vote for the Indian National Congress or the Indian National Development Alliance (INDIA).

“If you stand in a square in Jalandhar and ask 100 people which government will be formed, 90 will say Modi’s government will be reinstated,” he said.

If the people decide to have a Modi government again, will anyone make the mistake of voting for anyone else, he said.

The Prime Minister said the country had entered a new era in the last decade, adding that people were plagued with problems during the Congress Party’s rule but the Prime Minister had resolved them.

PM Modi said there was a time when the risk of terrorism was high in the country but the government had thwarted it.

“People understand that wherever the Congress is there, there are problems. Where the Bharatiya Janata Party is there, there are solutions. That is why the entire country is saying with one voice on June 4,” he asked the audience, to which they responded with “400 paar” (meaning the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party will win more than 400 seats in the ongoing elections).

Punjab is the land of Gurus but the Indian National Congress never treated it as more than just land, the Prime Minister said, accusing the party of bifurcating the state in 1947 and giving power to the family.

Regarding the partition of Pakistan, he said, “Kartapur Sahib is close to our border but the Congress handed it over to Pakistan.”

PM Modi said 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty under the current BJP government, adding that the Indian economy was in crisis during the Congress government but now, for the first time, India is the world’s fifth largest economy.
