‘They played with me, let’s take them’: Virender Sehwag slams Pakistan selectors for ‘favoritism’

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has slammed Pakistan’s duo of Wahaz Riaz and Mohammed Amir. Wahaz, who called time on his international cricket career last year, is currently the chief selector of the Pakistan men’s national team selection committee. He was appointed to the role in November. A few months after Riaz took up his new role, Amir, who had also retired from international cricket, rejoined the national team. Noting the development, Sehwag questioned Riaz’s intentions to chair the selection committee.

“Wahaz Riaz and Mohammed Amir are two men who used to voice their opinions against their national team on Pakistan TV news. Now one is a selector and the other is in the starting XI. What are these two people who used to criticise the team doing now that they are in power?” Sehwag said during a discussion on CriqBaz.

“Amir has played with me before, so let’s include him in the team,” Sehwag said, pointing at Wahab. “You can’t do this,” the former India opener said.

“Now that Ajit Agarkar has become the BCCI selector chairman, he will say, ‘Viru, do your best, we will help you get back into the team’. This is something you should not do. You have to look to the future. You have become a selector, the job is in your hand. Use it in the right way and do not give favours,” he added.

The Pakistan cricket team has been under a lot of criticism after their early exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup. The team suffered a disappointing defeat to the United States and also failed to achieve the target of 120 runs against India in the first round. All this combined has led to the entire team being subjected to harsh criticism.

There are rumours that the Pakistan cricket team may undergo changes in captain and players following the defending champions’ poor performance in the mega T20 event.
