FBI San Diego said in a statement Friday that three people have died in Santo Tomas, Baja California, as authorities search for two Australians and an American who went missing last weekend in the Mexican coastal state. announced that it had been discovered.

The FBI said it was in contact with the American family, but did not provide further details such as the identity of the body.

On Thursday, Mexican authorities announced that they were questioning three people in the disappearance of three men, but Baja California’s chief prosecutor, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, said the people questioned were not suspects. He did not say whether the suspects were witnesses or not, only saying that some of them were related to the incident. It can be direct or indirect.

Andrade Ramirez also said a tent and other evidence, including a cell phone and a white pickup truck believed to belong to one of the missing men, were discovered and linked in some way to the three missing men. said.

She said investigators were at the scene where they were last seen and were analyzing “tents and other evidence” found there that may have been linked.

“There is a lot of important information that cannot be made public,” Andrade Ramirez said at the time.

He added that the condition of the three was unknown and acknowledged that drug cartels were active in the area, saying: “All investigations have been launched at the moment. Until we find them, we cannot rule anything out.” added.

The three men, identified as Jake Robinson, Callum Robinson and Jack Carter, are believed to have been surfing and camping along the coast near the city of Ensenada in Baja California.

According to a Facebook post by Debra Robinson, the mother of Jake and Callum Robinson, the pair were considered missing after they failed to arrive at an Airbnb in the nearby city of Rosarito on Saturday. It is said that it was done.

Debra Robinson posted on a local community page Wednesday asking for help finding her sons. She had not heard from them since Saturday, when they were scheduled to appear in Rosarito, she wrote.

In the post, she wrote that Callum Robinson was diabetic and also mentioned that her sons were with Carter.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico could not immediately confirm at the time that Carter was one of the missing persons. The U.S. State Department said at the time that it was aware of reports of missing Americans in the area, but did not provide further information.

Andrade Ramirez said Thursday that his office has been in contact with officials in both the United States and Australia regarding the case, but that time elapsed between when he went missing and when he was reported missing. He said this could make it more difficult to find the three men. .

Baja California has become a popular spot for surfers, but the U.S. State Department is urging Americans not to vacation there, citing crime and kidnappings.
