North Texas – Tornado warnings have been issued for many counties in North Texas, including parts of Collin County, Hunt County and Fannin County.
A large tornado was confirmed, with multiple rotations observed in the affected area, CBS News Texas forecaster Jeff Ray said.
Towns and cities such as Anna, Melissa, Lane, Celeste, Hogie, Kingston, Midway, White Rock, Wolfe City, Jacobia, Aberfoyle and South Sulphur were either in the storm’s path or still near its path.
The tornado lasted more than an hour, Ray said, and debris was seen at an altitude of 5,200 feet.
Storm damage was reported across North Texas. A large tractor-trailer was reported to have overturned on I-35. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the tornado watch for western counties was lifted at 9 p.m.
The storm had little impact on the Metroplex on Saturday.
On Saturday, the dew point at DFW Airport hit 79°, which may have broken a record for May. It’s incredibly humid. The dew point will start to drop Sunday morning.
On Sunday, the dry line will move into the eastern part of the metroplex. Most areas will be in very dry air, so the heat index will remain very close to the actual temperature. The problem is, the actual temperature will be close to a record high. DFW is expected to hit 98°, making it the hottest day so far this year.
Not all of North Texas will be spared from the humidity. A heat advisory was issued for southern counties on Sunday (which continues from today). Temperatures will feel as high as 105 degrees by the afternoon. Be mindful of that heat, take frequent breaks when outdoors, and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
Original Story
Tornado threats remain present in counties west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
A tornado was reported in Windhorst, Archer County, near Wichita Falls, CBS News Texas storm chaser Jason McLaughlin said.
Other counties west of DFW continue to face the threat of tornadoes.
The threat of severe weather remains in place for Dallas-Fort Worth.
The air is full of moisture. The air temperature is in the low 90s Fahrenheit, but the heat index is over 100 Fahrenheit. The dew point is in the high 70s Fahrenheit. This is the maximum temperature.
A tornado watch had been issued for western counties a few hours earlier, and by 3:40 p.m., a tornado warning had been issued for the west. All of the storms that formed had turned into severe storms.
As the day ends, a dry line is expected to continue to push these storms eastward through the Metroplex. The tornado threat should subside, but the threat for hail and damaging winds remains very high. Please be careful if you are out and about in Colonial.
Development in the Southwest could bring another round of less severe storms overnight.
Dry weather is expected for Sunday and Memorial Day. Tomorrow will be the hottest day so far this year, with temperatures within one degree of a record high. The dryline will bring very dry air to most of North Texas. By the afternoon, you won’t need to worry about triple-digit heat indices. Dry air will keep you cool on Memorial Day. The nicest day of the holiday weekend!
The only storm-free days over the next week are likely to be Sunday and Monday. Unsettled weather in spring 2024 will continue into late spring and the first day of summer.
