G. Niranjan, senior vice-chairman of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the number of voters participating in the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana state has decreased by 1.25 million compared to the 2023 assembly elections, and the Election Commissioner of India The time has come for the Council (ECI) to seriously consider the reasons for this.
In his letter to the ECI, Niranjan asked the commission to conduct a detailed analysis to find out whether the cause was due to dead voters, duplicate voters or voters who cast their votes at two locations. . He said that during the 2023 assembly elections, people with two votes in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh voted for Telangana.
Currently, lakhs of such voters staying in Telangana are traveling to Andhra Pradesh to vote in the assembly elections, with an estimated number of 1.5 million, he added. .
He said that as per the norms, people should vote only in one place or they would be liable for criminal proceedings. But here, it was clear to people that he had registered to vote in two different locations. Such discrepancies also affect voter turnout, he argued.
In the coming months, elections to gram panchayats, ZPTCs/MPTCs and other local bodies in Telangana are scheduled and the current voter list will be the basis, he pointed out, urging the ECI to vote in Andhra. He called for making sure people could vote. Pradesh should not be allowed to vote in Telangana in these elections.
