Cybersecurity frontrunner Trend Micro on Monday released its 2023 Cybersecurity Annual Report. According to the report, the company has stopped more than 161 billion threats worldwide, which is a 10% increase over last year. It also warns that attackers may use more complex methods to target fewer victims and reap larger financial rewards.

The report, titled “Adjusting for Scale,” highlights the need for enterprises to proactively manage risk across the attack surface in an ever-evolving cybersecurity environment. This represents a 349% increase in email malware detections worldwide, while a 27% decrease in malicious and phishing URL detections. The report identifies access to cloud apps as a high-risk area, with trends in attack surface risk management (ASRM) pointing to approximately 83 billion access attempts.

In Egypt, Trend Micro strengthened its cybersecurity efforts by blocking more than 73 million threats, including 18 million email threats and 2 million malicious URL attacks. The company has also stopped more than 8 million malware attacks, ramping up its efforts to protect the Middle East’s digital infrastructure.

Asad Alabi, Managing Director of Africa and Venture Markets at Trend Micro, said: “Cybersecurity is critical to Egypt’s digital transformation. Our 2023 report reaffirms our commitment to strengthening this foundation. Our commitment extends beyond defence. aims to empower businesses, drive innovation, instill trust in technology and ensure a secure digital future for Egypt.”

In line with its mission to raise cybersecurity awareness, Trend Micro will host the Risk to Resilience (R2R) World Tour in Egypt on May 15th. The event highlights the company’s alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its commitment to promoting cybersecurity excellence in the region.
