AI PCs and AI applications introduce new risks to privacy and security, and security applications must also adapt.
AI can do some pretty amazing things. With new Copilot+ PCs on the horizon, the availability of AI PCs will only increase the risks to personal data and information.
To address the growing risks to personal data and PCs, Trend Micro announced Tuesday that it plans a “series of solutions and initiatives” to address the risks posed by AI. According to a press release sent to Lifewire, the new security solutions include AI applications, malicious AI content protection, and solutions that leverage AI to enhance protection.

This means that security solutions that take AI-specific risks into account will soon be available, whether you’re using an AI PC or a regular PC to use AI. Additionally, the power of AI can be applied to these protections as well, allowing Trend Micro to develop more robust security solutions.
“Generative AI represents an infrastructure shift that requires us to leverage our long history of understanding digital threats to develop innovative solutions and respond to the moment,” Eva Chen, co-founder and CEO of Trend Micro, said in a press release. “Our goal is to empower every user, from individual consumers to the world’s largest organizations, to safely and confidently harness the full potential of AI and AI-enabled computers.”
AI PCs are also increasing the level of risk people face, with more than 60% of PC shipments worldwide expected to be AI PCs by 2027, according to PC analytics firm IDC. Trend Micro uses MITER Adversarial Threat Landspace for artificial intelligence. As a guide to the applications in development, Intelligence Systems states that these applications will begin to be available “sometime in 2024,” but did not provide an exact release timeline or additional details.
