A series of solutions and initiatives to be released throughout 2024
Singapore, May 23, 2024 SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Trend Micro Inc. (TYO: 4704, TSE: 4704), a global cybersecurity leader, today announced a plan to protect consumers as they increasingly adopt generative AI applications amid the expected expansion of AI PC adoption. Designed to address the unique opportunities and risks that AI brings, Trend Micro’s strategy will help consumers safely use generative AI applications and reduce the risk of harm from AI use or misuse. Additionally, Trend Micro will continue to innovate by using AI in its own cybersecurity solutions and services to increase security effectiveness and efficiency.
While AI holds great promise for consumers, it also gives cybercriminals the opportunity to more effectively commit fraud and fraud with tactics such as phishing emails and deepfake videos that are difficult to detect. In a recent survey conducted by Trends, approximately 72% of respondents expressed excitement about the potential of AI to improve the quality of tasks and discover new opportunities, while approximately 65% expressed hope that AI could play a role in spreading misinformation. 58% are concerned that AI will misuse their image or likeness. Beyond these potential exploits of AI, vulnerabilities can exist in AI applications themselves, and without protection, consumers could be unknowingly misled or unintentionally exposed. Personal data may be leaked.
Eva ChenCo-founder and CEO of Trend: “Generative AI represents an infrastructure shift that requires us to leverage our long history of understanding digital threats to develop innovative solutions and respond to the moment. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, from individual consumers to the world’s largest organizations, can leverage the full potential of AI and AI PCs safely and reliably.”
The arrival of AI PCs also represents a new shift in the way consumers will use AI applications in the future, thanks to the neural processing units (NPUs) that power them. IDC predicts that AI PCs will account for almost 60% of global PC shipments by 2027, from 50 million units in 2024 to more than 167 million units in 2027. is expected to increase. By using AI PC, the consumer will be able to use his AI applications locally. It promises greater speed and privacy than accessing or transmitting data for processing in the cloud. This additional computing power also provides an opportunity for Trend to bring some of its cloud AI capabilities on-device and introduce new features that take advantage of the efficiency and data privacy benefits offered by AI PCs.
Trend Micro plans to make the solution available to consumers in the second half of 2024, aimed at securing AI, protecting users from its misuse, and leveraging AI in both existing and new products and services.
- AI Application Protection: Safeguards that prevent AI applications from being tampered with, contaminating AI applications with malicious input, and preventing AI applications from accidentally or maliciously accessing sensitive data.
- Protecting malicious AI content: Solutions that protect consumers from malicious content generated or modified by AI.
- Cyber security functions utilizing NPU: Solutions designed for AI PCs that leverage additional computing power.
As an indication of the importance of AI threats, MITRE introduced the ATLAS Matrix to assess the risks associated with AI assets: MITRE’s Adversarial Threat Landscape for Artificial Intelligence Systems https://atlas.mitre.org/matrices/ATLAS. Trend is mapping capabilities to this matrix when applicable to consumer use cases.
