Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday participated in a nomination filing rally for the Tripura Assembly and panchayat elections amid a huge turnout of BJP supporters in Tripura’s Gomati district. Expressing his gratitude on social media, Saha tweeted: “With the unwavering trust and immense blessings of the people, today I participated in the nomination filing rally of Bharatiya Janata Party candidates for the Tripura Assembly elections in the panchayat elections.”
The rally marked the last day for filing nominations for the three-phase panchayat elections scheduled for August 8. Later in the day, the Tripura Chief Minister also visited Matarbari to participate in a party programme. The Chief Minister offered prayers at Tripureswari Mandi and sought the blessings of Tripurasundari’s mother. The Chief Minister said he prayed to her for happiness and prosperity for the people of the state.
Earlier, on July 14, Dr Saha addressed the BJP’s expanded state executive meeting and urged unity and discipline in the party. He stressed the need for party workers to spread awareness of development works being undertaken by both state and central governments. Emphasising on grassroots efforts, Dr Saha directed party workers to connect with the people and ensure that the BJP’s ideals resonate with them.
“I highlight all the development works being undertaken for the welfare of the people and the country. It is crucial that these issues are taken up to the grassroots level,” Dr Saha said. He also issued a stern warning against any form of violence and unruly behaviour during the election period and stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, law and order.
The meeting was attended by prominent BJP leaders including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP coordinator for Northeast Sambit Patra, Tripura MPs Biplab Kumar Deb and Kriti Singh Debbarma, BJP state president Rajiv Bhattacharya and former deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma.
The panchayat elections in Tripura are scheduled for August 8 and the counting of votes will take place on August 12.
