President Donald Trump is meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of his nation, at the White House on Tuesday.

“President Trump looks forward to welcoming Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud to the White House, where the two leaders will participate in an official working visit,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement.

“Thanks to our Dealmaker-in-Chief, the United States secured $600 billion in historic investments during the President’s visit to Saudi Arabia earlier this year, and Americans can expect more good deals for our country spanning technology, manufacturing, critical minerals, defense, and more,” Kelly said.

The prince’s visit is his first to the United States since 2018. That year, Saudi agents killed the journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Khashoggi, who was a Saudi national and critic of the regime, was also a U.S. resident.

Bin Salman has denied ordering Khashoggi’s killing.

But in February 2021, a month after then-President Joe Biden took office, the United States’ director of national intelligence released a report that said bin Salman an operation to capture or kill Khashoggi.

At the same time as the report, then-Secretary of State Anthony Blinken imposed visa restrictions on 76 Saudis who were “believed to have been engaged in threatening dissidents overseas, including but not limited to the Khashoggi killing.
