Florida lawmakers demanded clarification after Cuban nationals visited a TSA facility in Miami, and Trump’s defense team finished their case in a hush-money trial.
Florida lawmakers respond to Miami-Cuba controversy
Several Florida lawmakers are calling attention to the Transportation Security Administration’s decision to allow Cuban officials to tour secure areas at Miami International Airport.
“This pathetic and dangerous decision puts American lives at risk,” said Congressman Carlos Gimenez, who represents the Miami area.
“Cuba is one of the countries that sponsors terrorism and is on the U.S. watch list, but it would be a good idea to have Cuban officials come to our airport to inspect the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the security system at our airport. It’s an idea,” he continued. “This is another example of the Biden administration getting it completely wrong.”
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levin Cava said in a press release that she was shocked to learn that Cuban officials had been invited without the Miami-Dade Aviation Authority’s knowledge.
Kaba said he was calling on the Department of Homeland Security to clarify what the decision to allow the tours was.
Further responses have poured in from Florida lawmakers.
“TSA must be held accountable by the Department of Homeland Security hearings,” said Sen. Rick Scott.
“I asked the Department of Homeland Security why they were so ignorant,” Sen. Marco Rubio said.
And Lt. Gov. Janet Nunez posted on social media: “Florida wants answers.”

Trump trial updates: Defense adjourns case without former president testifying
Donald Trump’s hush money trial defense team continued to rest without calling the former president as a witness.
Judge Juan Melchan adjourned the proceedings until next week.
“I think the best thing we can do is adjourn until next Tuesday,” Marchand said. “At that time, you will hear the attorney’s summary. The next day you will hear my jury charge. And I would like you to begin deliberations on Wednesday.”
The jury was dismissed.
Trump left the courtroom without answering questions about why he did not testify.
