Cullman High School educators and student trainers Anna Hill and Maddie Doyle were recognized with first place at the Alabama Future Teachers Conference for their submission to the “Grow Your Own” video lesson competition. (Cullman City Schools)

Kalman, Ara. – Anna Hill and Maddie Doyle, Career Tech students in Cullman High School’s Educator Training Program, won first place at the Alabama Future Teachers Conference for their entry in the “Grow Yourself” video lesson competition.

The pair beat out more than 50 applicants across the state to win. The competition involved Cullman High School students creating potential lesson plans, preparing lessons, providing instruction, and evaluating the results.

The Future Teachers of Alabama organization has launched its “Grow Our Own” initiative to provide schools with additional opportunities to focus on activities that promote teaching as a career and encourage students to strongly consider the field of education as a future. provide to the system.

The students were recognized at the Alabama Department of Education Board of Education meeting on May 9, 2024.

Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, invited Hill, Doyle and their mentor, Ben Heatherly, to the Alabama Senate, where they were recognized for their work.
