TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Tyler has been named 2023 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 15th consecutive year.
The award was given in recognition of the city’s efforts in “urban forest management,” according to the release. For the city of Tyler to be eligible for this award, he had to meet four requirements:
- have a treeboard or departments
- Enacting ordinances regarding tree care
- Maintain an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per person.
- Hold an Arbor Day event and proclamation
The City of Tyler also announced that it has received the Tree City USA Growth Award for the eighth consecutive year, being one of 12 Texas cities to receive the award.

“2023 events for which the City of Tyler is eligible for these awards include Arbor Day at Fun Forest Park, where 120 trees were planted. In addition to Arbor Day events, the City will A sapling distribution event was held, and more than 1,500 saplings were distributed to each household and a total of 120 trees and 475 saplings were planted on public grounds. When properly planted and maintained, trees provide a variety of benefits to communities: they improve neighborhood aesthetics, increase real estate values, reduce home cooling costs, and remove air pollutants. It provides many benefits, including providing habitat for wildlife.”
