Tyrese Maxey responds to social media trend

Just weeks after signing a new contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, Tyrese Maxey spoke to the media about his status as the Sixers’ franchise player.

The veteran guard’s press conference was streamed live to all fans on social media, which led to a lot of buzz around his look, which went viral.

Maxey appears to have put on a lot of muscle this offseason.

Ironically, the veteran guard reported that he had to take a drug test just a few days later.

“You guys really made me take a drug test,” the All-Star guard joked.

Coming out of Kentucky in 2020, Maxey was considered an undersized guard in the pros, which probably had something to do with him going outside the lottery in the first round.

The 76ers benefited from Maxey’s declining performance, taking him 21st overall. It was a bargain pick, as Maxey emerged as a franchise cornerstone.

Maxey became a full-time starter by his second year after his rookie season, averaging 18 points and shooting 43% from three-point range. In his third year, he averaged 20 points and hit 43% from three-point range, setting new career highs in scoring.

Maxey once again upped the ante. Last year, he scored 26 points per game. He also recorded six assists per game, both career-highs. Maxey was named to the All-Star team for the first time in his career.

With a new contract in place, expectations remain high for Maxey next season as he looks to continue moving in the right direction in his fifth season.
