He nearly missed his chance, but Bryson DeChambeau is now a two-time U.S. Open champion.

After losing a three-stroke lead he’d built to start the day, DeChambeau defeated Rory McIlroy to win the U.S. Open on Sunday afternoon at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. The victory was his second career major title and his first since winning the U.S. Open in 2020.

As a result, DeChambeau will take home a massive prize of $4.3 million.

This year, the U.S. Open is offering a record $21.5 million prize purse, the largest in the history of a men’s major tournament, $1.5 million more than last season and $1.5 million more than the Masters tournament earlier this year.

By comparison, the $21.5 million prize pool is bigger than all but one event on the PGA Tour this year. That record was surpassed only by the Players Championship in March, which had a $25 million prize pool. Scottie Scheffler won $4.5 million for winning. Last month, the PGA Championship offered $18.5 million in prize money, with Xander Schauffele winning $3.3 million.

While the top four will take home seven-figure prize money, every player who finishes in the top 10 at Pinehurst this week will earn at least $500,000, with an additional bonus of $10,000 for players who didn’t make the cut.

Here’s a look at how much money everyone made at the U.S. Open in North Carolina this week.
