The United Kingdom has declared Hassan Nawaz, son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a tax defaulter, imposing a £5.2 million fine on him.

British authorities included Hassan Nawaz in their latest list of tax defaulters, officially published on a government website.

According to the report, Hassan Nawaz failed to pay approximately £9.4 million in taxes between 5 April 2015 and 6 April 2016.

The UK’s tax authority has now penalised him for the overdue payments. Further details have been made available in public records.

Hassan Nawaz declared bankrupt in UK tax case

Last year, London High Court had declared Hassan Nawaz bankrupt in a tax case initiated by the United Kingdom’s Tax and Revenue Department.

The bankruptcy ruling against Hassan Nawaz came in relation to Case No. 694 of 2023, which was filed on August 25, 2023, in the London High Court.

The court’s decision follows Hassan’s financial disputes with British authorities over tax matters, marking a significant development in the family’s legal challenges abroad.

The case adds to a series of financial and legal issues faced by the Sharif family, who have been under scrutiny in both the UK and Pakistan for financial dealings.
