- Assistance to Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan has become more complicated as the government rolls out its plan to repatriate illegal foreigners. Phase II was announced to begin in April 2024, targeting Afghan citizen card holders. In the first six months of 2024, 156,580 Afghan refugees were repatriated.
- With one in five children in Pakistan currently suffering from acute malnutrition, UNICEF continues to support access to critical nutrition services to reduce acute malnutrition. By 2024, UNICEF had treated 115,354 children for severe acute malnutrition, 56 per cent of whom were girls.
- UNICEF support has contributed to reducing the number of out-of-school children, which currently stands at 25.37 million. Through its programmes, UNICEF has provided formal and non-formal education to 180,000 children, 46 per cent of whom are girls, in the first six months of 2024.
- UNICEF’s humanitarian appeal for children in 2024 totals $135.6 million. Despite generous contributions from donors, a 77 percent funding gap remains.
