As the second phase of Lok Sabha elections unfolds, the political landscape in Mathura resonates with fervour as BJP candidate Hema Malini expresses confidence in her electoral prospects. 

With polling underway in several key constituencies including Mathura, Malini asserted, “It is going good so far. It is 100% better than the first phase because our party workers are working hard and even I appealed to the people personally to come out and vote and people are coming out in large numbers to vote. I am very sure everything is going to be good… We were anyway going good, but with the ‘gathbandhan’ we are going to perform twice as well,” to ANI.

As the country is witnessing the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 10-year regime is a golden era in independent India.

Expressing his views, Yogi Adityanath said the country wants to see work and PM Modi has given a new direction. “The country wants to see work and PM Modi has given a new direction to the country. His 10-year regime is a golden era in independent India.” 

He further added, “In every sector, India has done something new. Today, India is established as a rapidly progressing economy. This will prove to be beneficial for the BJP.”

In a sheer violation of Model code of conduct, a selfie point has been established outside the booth in Begumpul area with pics of PM Modi and Arun Govil as Lord Ram. Arun Govil who played the role of Ram in TV serial Ramayan is candidate of BJP in the contest from Meerut.

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Meerut and popular ‘Ramayana’ actor Arun Govil said on Friday that he has full hope that the BJP will cross 400 seats in Lok Sabha polls 2024. The Bharatiya Janata Party has replaced three-term MP Rajendra Agarwal and pitted Ramayana actor Arun Govil against Samajwadi Party’s Sunita Verma and BSP’s Devratt Kumar. “I want to tell people to cast their vote. We must exercise our vote. We have full hope that this time the BJP will cross 400,” he said as the voting is underway in the constituency. Further, responding to the opposition’s allegations that he is an outsider contesting from the Meerut seat, Govil said, “I was born and brought up and even did my studies here, so how am I an outsider?”

BJP leader Dr Satyapal Singh casted his vote in his native village Basauli with daughter Charu and wife. He defeated Ch Ajit Singh on this seat in 2014 and Jayant Choudhary in 2019. Seat was given to RLD after alliance with BJP

Among the 91 candidates in the fray in this phase are actor-turned-politicians Hema Malini, seeking a third term from Mathura on a BJP ticket, and Arun Govil, who portrayed the role of Lord Ram in the famed television serial “Ramayan”.

Voting is taking place in the Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh and Mathura constituencies.

The stage is set for a three-cornered contest in eight Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh going to polls in the second phase on Friday. Staggered over seven stages, the first phase of the elections held last Friday for 102 seats across 21 states and Union territories saw a voter turnout of around 65.5 per cent. The poll campaigning for the second phase ended on Wednesday evening with leaders of all the major political parties criss-crossing the constituencies, garnering support for their candidates.

Amid polling for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday urged voters not to fall for any ‘diversionary tactics’ of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), adding that it is an election to “protect democracy from the clutches of dictatorship”.

Taking to his official X handle, Kharge posted, “We, the people of India – this soul of the Constitution of India, should reverberate in your hearts and minds before you push the voting button. Do not forget that this is not an ordinary election. It is an election to protect Democracy from the clutches of Dictatorship. To all my dear citizens, from 89 Constituencies in 13 States and UTs, do not get swayed by any diversionary tactics and lies. Always make your vote count.”

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, 6,841 inspectors and sub-inspectors, 39,642 head constables and constables, and 28,784 home-guard personnel, along with 60 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and 239 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), have been deployed to ensure security.

Total 91 candidates in contest including 10 women candidates. Total 1,67 77,198 voters, 9026051 male, 7750356 female, 791 third gender will cast their votes in 17,698 polling centres.

Gautam Buddh Nagar gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with over 20,000 personnel assigned for polling duty to assist the 26.75 lakh registered voters, officials revealed. District Election Officer Manish Kumar Verma stated that the constituency comprises 1,852 booths, with live webcasting planned for 931 booths and CCTV or videography for the rest. Among these, 164 booths are deemed vulnerable, while 165 are critical. The constituency spans Noida, Dadri, Jewar, Khurja, and Sikandrabad assembly segments, with Sikandrabad and Khurja falling within Bulandshahr district but being part of Gautam Buddh Nagar. The constituency boasts 26,75,148 voters, including 14,50,795 males, 12,22,234 females, and 119 third-gender voters, distributed across the five assembly segments.

Arrangements are being made for voting at a polling booth located in Meerut Cantt, Uttar Pradesh.

Increased security measures have been implemented in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in preparation for the second phase of polling scheduled for April 26. Visuals from Anand Vihar depict the heightened security presence.
