“We are very excited to welcome Missouri State University as the 12th member of Conference USA,” said Commissioner Judy McLeod. “This institution boasts a great tradition in athletics and academics, which will strengthen our membership and further position us for long-term success nationally. We look forward to our partnership with President Smart, President-elect Dr. Biff Williams, Director of Athletics Kyle Moats, and their entire leadership team.”

Details regarding this move are expected to be announced at a press conference scheduled for Monday, May 13th at 1:00 PM Central Time, 2:00 PM Eastern Time at MSU’s Great Southern Bank Arena.

The Bears were previously FCS members and most recently played football in the Missouri Valley Conference. They recently completed their first season under head coach Ryan Beard, who led them to a 4-7 record in 2023.

“We are very excited about the opportunities that CUSA membership brings to our university, student-athletes, coaches and fans. This move represents a transition to a national brand and platform,” said Director of Athletics Kyle Moats. he said. This will help raise the profile of Missouri State University and the city of Springfield. The steps we have invested in our successful and extensive athletics program over the past 15 years have prepared us for this long-awaited moment. ”
