U.S. fencers say a “cloud of suspicion” could cloud their Olympic performance unless USA Fencing and the International Fencing Federation enact strict sanctions against match-fixing, according to a copy of the letter obtained by USA TODAY Sports. It is said that there is a sex.

The fencers also announced “weak and needless” nine-month suspensions for two U.S. Fencing judges found to have violated ethical and technical regulations as part of an ongoing investigation by USA Fencing. He also criticized USA Fencing for imposing penalties.

The letter will be released Tuesday on behalf of more than eight members of the U.S. fencing team through Global Athletes, an international athlete advocacy organization, to avoid retaliation, said Rob Koehler, executive director of Global Athletes. It’s planned.

According to USA Fencing, referees Jacobo Morales and Brandon Romo met in January during a North American Cup match in San Jose, Calif., with Morales providing input to Romo and Romo providing input. He committed a violation when he asked for it.

USA Fencing said in a statement: “The commission made no findings in this matter as to whether Mr. Morales made the calls himself or reviewed calls made by Mr. Romo, and did not make any findings regarding collusion or other “We also did not determine that there was any reliable evidence of fraud.” Released on April 24th.

The match in question was an Olympic qualifier, and the letter from the fencers called on USA Fencing to immediately reallocate competition points “so that justice prevails.”

A second pending investigation involves allegations of match manipulation.

The Paris Games are scheduled to begin on July 26, and the letter from U.S. fencers addresses issues with match manipulation.

“As athletes competing in the Paris Olympics, USA Fencing and the International Fencing Federation have a responsibility to clean up the competition and impose severe sanctions for match manipulation,” the letter said. “This is not only to avoid a cloud of suspicion casting a shadow over the performance,” but to ensure that all fencers in Paris receive fair positions…”

The fencers said if USA Fencing is “committed to upholding the rules and integrity of the sport,” it must impose multi-year suspensions on the two American referees.

According to a statement released by USA Fencing on April 24, USA Fencing is working with the USA Fencing Referees Board on the second investigation, with investigators interviewing more than 50 individuals, reviewing documents, and He said he analyzed data, watched videos and received dozens of tips.

“At USA Fencing, we will never stop working to ensure a level playing field for our athletes,” the statement said. “Fencing matches should be decided by the actions of the fencers on the strip, and we will continue to hold everyone involved in the sport to the highest standards.”
