ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States held a counter-terrorism dialogue in Washington this week to discuss cooperation to counter regional and global threats, and strengthen efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism and combat terrorist financing. We will strengthen cooperation to achieve this goal.
Abdul Hameed, the Foreign Ministry’s counter-terrorism chief, will lead the Pakistani delegation to the three-day talks in Washington from May 8 to 10, while the US side will be led by a senior State Department official responsible for counter-terrorism issues. . This was revealed by diplomatic sources.
The first edition of the Pakistan-US Counter-Terrorism Dialogue was held on March 6, 2023 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, where the two countries discussed the counter-terrorism situation in Pakistan and the wider region. The United States and Pakistan can better work together to counter regional and global threats, improve cooperation, prevent and counter violent extremism, and combat terrorist financing.
During the meeting, the two countries will strengthen dialogue on these topics and continue to discuss paths towards resuming or implementing counter-terrorism programs to support Pakistan’s efforts to more effectively counter all forms of violent extremism. We agreed to do so.
