The United States pulled off a major upset by defeating Bangladesh by five wickets in the first of three consecutive T20 Internationals ahead of co-hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup next month.
America, ranked 19th in the T20 international rankings, chased down a target of 154 with three balls to spare in Dallas, Texas, with former New Zealand international Corey Anderson finishing with 34 not out.
Bangladesh looked to be in control when the hosts needed 50 off the last 20 balls but former India U-19 all-rounder Harmeet Singh (33 off 13 balls) smashed three consecutive sixes to turn the tide.
America still needed 24 of the remaining 12 balls, but Anderson quickly hit two sixes of his own and added 62 runs in 4.4 overs with Singh in a victory-winning six-wicket stand that the team will remember. The victory was decided.
This is the second win for the United States against a full T20 international team since defeating Ireland in 2021.
The USA, who will share hosting duties with the West Indies, will open the T20 World Cup against Canada on June 1st, before facing world powerhouses Pakistan, India and Ireland in the final group match.
