Our Weekly Playbook is packed with information on everything from locker room chatter to pressing LGBTQ sports issues.
After training at the Olympic Training Centre, Doyle made her international women’s sevens debut at the 2012 Dubai Sevens.
Within a few years, she had established herself as a player to watch, scoring the most tries of any player during the 2015 Olympic Qualifiers and was also a key player on the U.S. Women’s Rugby Sevens team that won the silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games.
A year later, Doyle made her Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro: she scored a try against Colombia in the group stage and the USA reached the quarterfinals, only to lose to eventual silver medal winner New Zealand.
Doyle returned to the Tokyo Olympics and the USA led the team to a perfect record in the group stage with 3 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws. Unfortunately, the USA was once again eliminated in the quarterfinals, losing to Great Britain.
Around the time of the Tokyo Olympics, teammate Ilona Maher appeared in a TikTok video showcasing Doyle as part of Team LGBTQ at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Lauren Doyle at the Paris Summer Olympics
The Paris Olympics will be Doyle’s third Summer Olympic Games and she and the U.S. team are hoping to reach the medal podium for the first time.
Additionally, Doyle’s leadership and experience was officially recognized when U.S. Team Coach Emily Bydwell named her co-captain of the team alongside teammate Naya Tapper.
“So excited to be selected for my 3rd Olympic team! Someone pinch me!! Let’s make it big,” she wrote in an Instagram post as she proudly held her two dogs, all wrapped in American flag bandanas.
Doyle is also a co-host of the USA Rugby podcast “Chasing Eagles,” where he and Christy Kirche and his teammates discuss their preparations for the Paris Olympics.
