Washington – The Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., was placed on lockdown early Wednesday morning after two vials containing blood were found in a suspicious package, U.S. Capitol Police confirmed.
The source of the blood is unknown and remains under investigation. Capitol Police, which spearheaded the response, confirmed that its Hazardous Incident Response Unit had inspected and removed the package. Press Secretary Brianna Birch said Capitol Police will further investigate the package’s origin and its contents.
The RNC said in a statement later that day that its staff members “have resumed their duties to continue working undaunted and undaunted to elect President Trump to the White House.”
The RNC has tried to link the incident to the “far left,” but police have not yet released information about a possible motive.
