Vikravandi by-election results 2024: DMK’s Anniyul Siva wins with over 67,000 votes, MK Stalin distributes sweets

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the Vikravandi by-election in Tamil Nadu. The counting of votes for the Vikravandi Assembly seat took place on Saturday, July 13, 2024. DMK’s Anniyur Siva (Sivashanmugam A) won with a margin of 67,757 votes. 29 candidates contested to be elected as the next Vikravandi Assembly Member. The by-election to this Assembly constituency was necessitated following the death of N. Pugazhenthi.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader Stalin was seen distributing sweets to party workers at the party office in Chennai as the party takes a lead in the Vikravandi Assembly by-elections.

75. Vikravandi is a Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituency in the state of Tamil Nadu. The constituency is located in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu and North Tamil Nadu. Vikravandi Legislative Assembly seat can be categorised as rural. The reservation status of this seat is general. Vikravandi is part of 13th Villupuram (Scheduled Caste) Lok Sabha constituency. There are a total of 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Past election results

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMK’s Pugazhenthi N defeated ADMK’s Muthamilselvan R by a margin of 9,573 votes, which amounted to 4.97% of the total votes. A total of 192,495 votes were polled in the election, of which the DMK secured 93,730 votes, which amounted to 48.41% of the total votes.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in the Vikravandi Assembly constituency of Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency, Ravikumar D is leading with 6,823 votes, which is 3.74% of the total votes polled in the constituency. Ravikumar D (VCK) won the Villupuram Lok Sabha seat.

Election Day

The Gazette Notice for Vikravandi by-election was published on Friday, June 14, 2024, the last date for scrutiny of candidates was Monday, June 24, 2024 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations was Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The constituency will go to polls on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 and counting of votes will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

For the 2021 state assembly elections, vote counting took place on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the total number of voters in Vikravandi is 2,34,841, of which 1,16,118 are male, 1,18,698 female and 25 voters of the third gender.

On 10 July 2024, the voter turnout in Vikravandi constituency was reported as 82.48%, which is 0.05% lower than the voter turnout recorded for this seat in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the voter turnout in this constituency was reported as 82.53%.
