BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Nearly 8,000 Virginia Tech (VT) students are preparing to walk across the stage. On Friday, May 10, graduates lined up outside Lane Stadium for the university’s 2024 commencement ceremony.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., VT will recognize 6,355 bachelor’s degree candidates from all universities. Approximately 2,088 graduates completed their bachelor’s degree programs with honors and achieved a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Paris Todd, who will graduate with a degree in English and a minor in literature, said she is excited to cross the stage.

“VT has been very accommodating and very helpful, especially with all the services we offer here, from group counseling to Title IX services,” Todd said. “It was incredible here.”

The College of Engineering has the largest number of graduates, with 2,109 Hokies, according to the university. A total of 1,586 students will receive graduate degrees and 249 will receive doctoral degrees.

Mehul Sanghani, Virginia Tech alumnus and CEO and founder of Octo, will deliver the keynote address. Hawkey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, systems engineering, and psychology. With the encouragement of his family, he founded a technology company focused on national security at the age of 30.
