Virginia Tech has had some big recruiting successes at safeties, including former four-star safety Quentin Reddish. The Hokies kept Reddish on the team despite a late push from Ohio State last season. This year’s class could be their strongest yet, and there are some intriguing names in 2026.
With that said, let’s take a look at the Hokies’ safety situation.
2025: Sheldon Robinson starts a big class
Virginia Tech is set to recruit a large defensive back class in terms of numbers, but this class could also be a large freshman recruiting class in terms of talent, ratings and offers.
Let’s start with the commitment the Hokies have already secured from Sheldon Robinson. He surprised many, including me, by committing to Virginia on his official visit, cancelling official visits to Duke and Virginia in the process. Robinson was promoted on Tech’s board all spring, and Tech was able to close the deal shortly after he took his official visit to Vanderbilt. You can read more about why he chose the Hokies here.
That means even with Robinson on the board, the Hokies could still acquire a few more safeties, some of whom, like Keonta Jenkins, have the size to develop into a star linebacker spot.
