It would be an understatement to say fans were ecstatic when it was announced that Virginia Tech would be one of the many teams receiving new uniforms for the 2024-2025 football season. But even though they knew they would have to wait a while for the full release, die-hard fans and followers on social media and message boards were eager to know what exactly the new Hokies would look like this season.
But one thing remained consistent throughout this process: The current uniforms were in need of significant changes and represented an era that, to fans, “just wasn’t Virginia Tech football,” and they just wanted to put it behind them.
So what do we actually know about the new uniforms that will be unveiled soon? First off, the uniforms will give Virginia Tech a new identity on the football field. Now in Year 3 under coach Brent Pry and a new regime for the team, things are starting to take shape for the Hokies, and with that new look will come a new realization of what kind of team Virginia Tech really is.
One of the more talked-about physical changes to the new uniforms is the removal of the shoulder stripes that have been a feature of Virginia Tech’s football uniforms since 2018. In six seasons of use, the Hokies have a combined record of 35-39, mediocre at best. Of course, we’re not saying that all the blame lies with the uniforms, but sometimes it’s better to throw out the old and put in the new.
The new uniforms are supposed to have a clean, sleek design reminiscent of the Mike Vick era at Lane Stadium. We don’t know if that’s true, but the majority of opinion around the country is certainly pointing to it, and we’ll probably see some kind of debut this Friday.
And since EA Sports College Football ’25 launches on July 19th, just one week after Virginia Tech unveils its uniforms, we might see a new look for the Hokies in the game.
