Voting reaches final stage today with PM Modi also a candidate

Lok Sabha Election Live Updates: Overview of key election contests in Punjab

The state’s constituencies are seeing a multi-sided contest as no major coalition has emerged to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

1. Gurdaspur: BJP sitting MP Sunny Deol is not contesting this time and the BJP has fielded former Sujanpur MP Dinesh Singh Babu. Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa is the Congress candidate. The Ahmed Aami Party has fielded sitting MP Amansher Singh (Sherry Kalsi) from Batala while the Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded its senior member Daljit Singh Cheema.

2. Amritsar: Former Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu (BJP) is taking on incumbent Indian National Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla. Other candidates fielded include Anil Joshi of the SAD and Ahmed Aami Party is fielding Punjab Cabinet minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal.

3. Khadur Sahib: The Indian National Congress has fielded Kulbir Singh Zilla from the reserved seat, while the AAP has fielded Laljit Singh Brar. The BJP has fielded Manjeet Singh Mianwind. Jailed Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh is also contesting from this seat.

4. Jalandhar: AAP’s Pawan Kumar Tinu, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, BJP’s Sushil Kumar Rinku and Akali Dal’s Mohinder Singh Kaypee will contest from Jalandhar Assembly constituency.

5. Hoshiarpur: The Indian National Congress has fielded Yamini Gomal from this reserve constituency. The BJP has given its nomination to Anita Som Prakash while the AAP has fielded Dr Raj Kumar Chavewal.

6. Anandpur Sahib: The BJP has fielded Dr Subhash Sharma from this constituency. Sharma is taking on Congress candidate Vijay Inder Singla along with AAP’s Malvinder Singh Kang and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)’s Prem Singh Chandumajra.

7. Ludhiana: The constituency is witnessing a tight contest between Bharatiya Janata Party leader and two-time Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Waring and Ahmed Aadmi Party leader Ashok Parashar Pappi. The Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded Ranjit Singh Dhillon.

8th – Fatehgarh Sahib: In this by-election constituency, the BJP has fielded Geja Ram, the Congress Amar Singh and the AAP Gurpreet Singh.

9. Faridkot: BJP candidate Hans Raj Hans will face off against Amarjit Kaur Sahawk of the Indian National Congress, Karamjit Singh Anmol of the Aam Aadmi Party and Rajwinder Singh Dharamkot of the Shiromani Akali Dal.

10. Firozpur: The Indian National Congress will field Sher Singh Gubaya again from the constituency, the BJP will field Gurmit Singh Sodhi and the AAP will field Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar.

11. Bathinda: The key candidates in the Bathinda Assembly constituency include Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD), Jeet Mohinder Singh (Indian National Congress), Gurmeet Singh Khudian (AAP) and former IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu of the BJP.

12th Sangrur: Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded Iqbal Singh Jundan. Simranjit Singh Mann is the SAD(A) candidate while BJP has nominated Arvind Khanna. Indian National Congress has nominated Sukhpal Singh Kaira and AAP has picked Gurmeet Singh Meet Heyer.

13. Patiala: Former Union Minister Preneet Kaur, wife of former BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh, is the BJP candidate. The BJP has fielded former AAP MP Dr Dharamvir Gandhi. The AAP candidate is Dr Balbir Singh.
