The roster has been completely reshuffled, with the only remaining stars remaining after this offseason being wide receiver Terry McLaurin and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, who are the only Commanders players named to CBS Sports Pete Prisco’s top 100 players for 2024, but were not named among the league’s best 100, merely given “honorable mention” status.
McLaurin hasn’t been the best QB the past few seasons, but he at least deserved to be on the list given his ability, despite the fact that he recorded his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023. Allen, on the other hand, will be looking for a bounce-back season after his production declined in 2022, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second straight year.
Those two seemed like obvious choices, but there are several other Commanders players who are expected to make plays this season, including Austin Ekeler and Jahan Dotson, both solid position players who could have breakout opportunities.
The Commanders didn’t need to do anything drastic in the offseason, they just needed a foundation of balance to get things started with a new regime and a quarterback under center. They’ve done that. Now it’s up to them to show progress in this new era of D.C. football.
