OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington state lawmakers and candidates took to social media Monday to share their thoughts on Memorial Day.
Gov. Jay Inslee (D) and his wife expressed gratitude for the role military families play in protecting our democracy.
“Please join Trudy and I in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our democracy. We thank them and their families, and may those who have lost their lives never be forgotten,” said Governor Inslee.
Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bob Ferguson (Democrat) explained his family’s military roots and expressed gratitude to those in the military.
“My father and grandfathers taught me what it means to serve bravely and selflessly – sacrificing their own safety, comfort and time with their families to keep us safe,” Ferguson said.
Fellow gubernatorial candidate Dave Reichert (R) also sent a Memorial Day message expressing gratitude to military personnel and their families.
“This Memorial Day, we thank those who gave their lives for our freedom. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Reichert said.
Lt. Governor Denny Heck (D) spoke at a Memorial Day event in Olympia today, thanking the military families in attendance.
“It is truly an honor to be part of this crowd this morning and to remember and pay tribute to our fallen heroes who defended our nation’s independence, freedom and democracy,” Heck said.
