As Bihar gears up for the state assembly elections scheduled for 2025, political strategist Prashant Kishor is already gearing up for his political party, Jan Suraj. Speaking to reporters, Kishor announced that Jan Suraj will give 40 women leaders the right to contest in the upcoming elections.
Prashant Kishore said no political party had ever had as many as 30 women members in the state assembly before and stressed the importance of finding capable women candidates in each district of Bihar. “At Jan Suraj we believe that at least one woman leader should contest elections in each district. It is our collective responsibility to find women who can contribute effectively to society and represent each district,” he added.
Kishore criticised superficial promises on women’s representation. He stressed that mere talk of forming a women’s front or providing 30-50 per cent quota without a solid plan is misleading. “If someone says they will give 30-50 per cent quota, it is not true. The reality is far from these claims,” Kishore asserted.
Kishor assured that the initiative for women’s representation will be included in the Jan Suraj Party constitution to ensure the party’s unwavering resolve. He suggested that at least one woman leader should stand for election in each district under the Jan Suraj Party. “I put forward this proposal to all the people of Bihar. At least one woman leader should be given an opportunity. If there are two capable women in a district, both should be promoted. This principle will be part of the Jan Suraj Party constitution,” Kishor declared.
She encouraged the identification and promotion of female leaders who can make a positive impact: “We need to identify and support women who can work to make society better,” she said.
