RAPIDS CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – It’s common for some high school students to not know what career path they want to pursue after graduation, which is why Western Dakota Technical College held its annual Scrub Camp on Tuesday. and showed students what is possible.

More than 100 Black Hills area high school seniors and seniors attended Scrubs Camp to learn and explore various medical careers.

Students took classes from instructors in a variety of fields, including dental assistants, nursing, laboratory technicians, and phlebotomy.

You may also participate in various activities in your school’s simulation center or laboratory.

Gina Kimbell, admissions specialist at Western Dakota Tech, said the camp could help increase enrollment and help combat the nation’s current nursing shortage.

“In our practical nursing program, we have certifications that can be earned in other states, so they don’t even have to stay in Rapid City, but certainly the need for health science professions is great. ,” Kimbell said.

She added that Western Dakota Tech plans to hold a program-wide camp for all technical classes in the spring.
