“To oversimplify this, my short answer is that you’re literally just lying in bed and unfortunately you’re not being productive,” he says.

While it may be tempting to relax in the world, Dr. Dasgupta warns that what you see on social media may not actually be the absolute truth. Sure, there are benefits to giving your body and mind a chance to recover after intense exercise, but basically staying face down for this period, avoiding external stressors, is especially helpful if you’re suffering from more serious issues. It can have a negative effect on the psyche of some people.

“TikTok has a way of making it seem like laziness is somehow a trend. That’s the opposite of what I want people with depression to do.”

“TikTok somehow has a way of making laziness seem super trendy. I’m afraid of these things because it’s the opposite of what I want people with depression to do. That’s why,” says Dr. Gasgupta. “I want them to seek help, I want them to go outside and get some sunlight, I want them to go out and eat well, not just in bed.”

A rotten bed creates an unhealthy relationship between you and the bed.

According to Dr. Dasgupta, if you lie in bed without sleeping, disaster will ensue. Bed and sleeping arrangements should be reserved solely for sleeping. Associating your mattress, pillows, and bed sheets with the passive activity of rotting your bed can trick your brain into staying awake when you start getting comfortable, and when you’re not practicing the fad discipline, you’re not asleep. It becomes difficult to stick to the surface.

“We call this stimulus control,” says Dr. Dasgupta. “Don’t you want to go to bed?” [while] Your mind and body are thinking, “Oh, it’s social media time, it’s time to watch TV, it’s time to eat.” Bed should be associated only with sleep. ”
