Candy salad is the unhealthiest of all salads, but that’s not the point.

“I’ve seen a lot of people make candy salads,” TikTok creator @what_wood_kim_do said in a video documenting the process.

She calls the concoction “very soothing for your inner child” and implores you to ignore the sugar content.

Sure, before you move on, put aside your concerns about overconsumption of sugar.

With the understanding that this salad is not the healthy variety, here’s what you need to know.

First of all, the key to making candy salad is to choose ingredients that won’t melt. So think Nerd Gummy Clusters, Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Cut-Up Sweet Tartrope or Licorice, Gummy Bears – you have the image.

Some people make candy salad in bowls or storage containers, which appear to be for one person, while others plan candy salad as a group activity.

Each middle school student will bring candy to add to the salad, and everyone will be placed in a giant container. Participants then take home the mix, including sandwich bags.

The creator, who shares content using the handle @ary_is_superswag, shared how members of the color guard each provided candy for the giant batch of sweet fun.

One member added mini chocolate candy bars wrapped in a giant container of treats, which was questioned in the comments. “So why did she put chocolate in her candy salad?” one TikTik user demanded.

Another lamented, “There’s always one person who puts something papered up in there.”

“Goodbye with the wrapping paper on,” sarcastically commented another commenter who felt that one of the participants did not understand the task.

Creator Kim Wood is passionate about the idea of Candy Salad being about the inner child, so she took the plunge and created Chocolate Candy Salad.

None of the candies had wrappers, like the peanut M&Ms. But, as she explained, this version of candy salad is meant for indoor use, like when you’re watching a movie, so it doesn’t melt into lumps of candy.

After all, there are no rules for this kind of thing. If you like chocolate but don’t really like gummies, give this a try. Just be aware, as one commenter warned, you’ll likely end up eating it all in one sitting.
