This is why some couples choose to go on a trip before exchanging wedding vows.
Honeymoons give newlyweds a chance to forget about the stresses of the wedding day, but another jet-setter trend is some couples ditching the pressures of pre-wedding planning for an early moon getaway to rest and recuperate before the wedding.
The excursion, which allows couples to relax before walking down the aisle and saying “yes,” first emerged in 2017. The concept resurfaced in Vogue magazine last year and is now trending on social media.
Some tout the benefits of menstruating early, including Marco Escalera, who told “Good Morning America” that it’s essential to take a break from all the wedding hustle and bustle.
“We saw it as an opportunity to recharge,” he said. “We knew we couldn’t have a honeymoon right away, so we wanted to block out some time in advance to make sure it would happen.”
His wife, Katie Escalera, added that the route was affordable and gave them time to save up for a bigger trip.
“Traveling earlier is more budget-friendly, and it also gives us time to postpone our honeymoon and take a longer, more fulfilling trip,” she explained.
Wedding experts say interest in such pre-wedding getaways is growing, with some couples making an early getaway an extra investment while others are replacing a traditional honeymoon altogether.
“It’s a way for them to decompress, relax and get comfortable with each other before the wedding,” Gabriella Lelo Duffy, senior editor of Brides magazine, told GMA.
Even if you don’t get married early, telling your partner you’re getting married soon could help secure some standard post-wedding perks, Duffy said.
“People are always happy to help out if they can — put it in a special note when you make a reservation or let your server know at dinner. I think people are always willing to do a little something if they can,” Duffy said.
The Escaleras said they would encourage other couples to get married early.
“Absolutely do it,” Marco Escalera said.
Katie Escalera added: “Please give it a try. It’s a great way to reconnect and keep that spark alive between you and your loved one.”
