What is the new “raw dog” travel trend?

We all have our own ways of getting through the journey, whether that be reading a book, watching a movie or just sleeping through.

But there’s a new travel trend taking social media by storm, and it’s all about abstinence.

For many of us, the prospect of taking a long-distance flight accompanied only by our thoughts is nightmarish, to say the least.

And yet people willingly subject themselves to such tests of mental strength by cutting themselves off from all entertainment and distractions.

To some people, especially those who consult Urban Dictionary, “raw-dogging” is a blatantly vulgar term that specifically refers to risky unprotected sex.

But for those versed in the latest lingo, it can mean surviving a trip without a mobile phone, magazines, essentially no entertainment and, in extreme cases, no food.

Some content creators now claim to be experts in this mysterious endurance technique, with Instagram user @trashcanpaul bragging about surviving a seven-hour flight on raw food.

“No headphones, no movie, no water, nothing. It’s incredible,” he said of his feat, adding: “My mental strength has no limits.”

While this may seem impressive (or stupid), he is by no means a record holder.

Commenters on his post were quick to share their own “personal bests,” with one person writing: “My record is 12.5 hours of working hard raw on a plane.”

Meanwhile, another user commented, “I was saddled with RAW from LA to Tokyo. I’ve never been the same since. I was a different person when I got off the plane.”

However, others were more critical or skeptical, with one person joking: “I found myself sleeping the whole flight.”

Meanwhile, another ominously admitted: “I’ve done this. It’s hardcore.”

“I don’t recommend it.”
