Former Pakistan cricket captain and politician Imran Khan visited India for Agenda Aaj Tak 2015 and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. At the event, he sat in the audience during Aamir Khan’s session and expressed his views on his choices, citing the example of Dhobi Ghat, the 2010 film starring Aamir that was funded by him and directed by his ex-wife, film director Kiran Rao. “I offer you my compliments.”
When Imran told Aamir that he also had a question for him, the Pakistani politician said in Urdu, “Aamir, I actually want to compliment you. Look, I think there are two types of people in this world. Materialistic people only think about themselves. They think that if they play cricket and become famous, they will earn money from cricket for the rest of their lives. Similarly, you can earn a lot of money just by acting.”
He further added, “But I happened to see your film Dhobi Ghat. The compliment is that you say, ‘I am not political’. But this is politics. That you are aware of the injustices in society. Whether it is English or Urdu, some children are privileged and others are not. For you to point this out and create social awareness among people is a great contribution.” Moved by Imran’s words, Aamir thanked the Pakistan cricketer-turned-politician Imran.
