The U.S. Men’s National Team will begin its 2024 Copa America adventure on June 23 against Bolivia.
The USMNT will begin their journey at gleaming AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Lone Star State. This tournament holds great meaning for coach Gregg Berhalter and his staff because it will be his last chance to see his players play in a competitive tournament before the U.S. co-hosts the 2026 World Cup.
With mostly friendlies and no World Cup qualifiers, this will be a key test for the U.S. to see how they stack up against the best teams in the Western Hemisphere and how far they can still go.
The last time the US played in the Copa America was in 2016, when the tournament celebrated its 100th anniversary in the United States. The US won Group A and beat Ecuador in the quarterfinals to finish in fourth place, but lost badly to Argentina in the semifinals before losing to Colombia in the third-place playoff.
The U.S. had appeared in the Copa America three times before, the best of which was a legendary fourth-place finish with a mostly amateur Uruguay team in 1995. That was a year before MLS was founded and a year after a ragtag U.S. men’s national team had been eliminated in the group stage at the 1994 World Cup on home soil.

America’s Copa America records
The US has participated in the Copa America four times, finishing in fourth place twice. Most notably in 1995, when the US reached the semifinals with a team made up mostly of amateur players who had not yet played in MLS at the time and defeated Argentina 3-0 in the group stage. In 2007, the US sent a B team to the Copa America while the A team played in the Gold Cup, but they were eliminated in the group stage.
