NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Audubon Aquarium of New Orleans has been ranked among the top three aquariums in the country in a USA Today readers’ poll.
Audubon Aquarium was ranked second in the nation by USA Today readers in a poll of the 10 best aquariums, according to a news release.
Audubon Nature Institute officials said this marks the ninth year the aquarium has been nominated for a USA Today readers’ poll of the Top 10.
According to the announcement, the recommendations are made following a research process by travel experts and editors, as well as analysis of exhibitions, conservation efforts and visitor interactions.
Audubon Society officials said the aquarium will undergo a $41 million renovation in 2023 that will include adding an Audubon Insectarium, a Gulf Coast creature exhibit and a new Amazon Encounters area.
“This is an incredible honor and one that our team strives to achieve every day with hard work and dedication,” said Rich Toth, director and senior vice president of Audubon’s Downtown Facilities. “Our team is always striving to showcase the animals we care for, provide unforgettable experiences and educate our guests about the world’s oceans.”
In March, it was announced that Audubon Zoo was ranked No. 7 on USA Today’s 10 Best list of the best zoos in the country.
