Every time a swimmer from Indiana was announced at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium, he was greeted with thunderous cheers from the hometown crowd.

Indiana fans had plenty to cheer about beyond just watching the athletes take to the starting line. Based on where the athletes come from, Indiana has sent more athletes to the U.S. Olympic team than any other state, with six athletes calling Indiana home. Drew Kibler, Lily King, Blake Pieroni, Aaron Shackel, Alex Shackelland Luke Whitlock.

Note: Hometown data collected from USA Swimming and Team USA, when available, or from swimmers’ college rosters as of June 28, 2024

Five of the six Indiana swimmers still train in the state, so if this map were sorted by training location instead of state of origin, Indiana would lose Kibler, but it would also gain a swimmer like him. Anna Peplowski Mariah Dennigan, and Josh MathenyHe trains with King and Pieroni at Indiana University.

In total, swimmers from 23 states will represent the United States in Paris. The majority of states (13) will send multiple swimmers to the team and 10 states will send one athlete to represent the United States.

The map includes both pool and open water swimmers. Katie Grimes Since she is qualified in both pool and open water swimming, she probably wouldn’t make the list anyway, but if you add open water swimmers, Kentucky becomes the only representative this year (Denigan) and Pennsylvania becomes the third representative. Ivan Puskovich.

Behind Indiana’s six swimmers, Maryland and Florida are tied for the second-highest number of swimmers on the roster, with both states having four swimmers. Erin Gemmell The first Olympic athlete from either state is from Maryland. Katie Ledecky, Phoebe Bacon, Chase Cullis And Florida Caleb Dressel, Bobby Finke, Ryan Murphy, and Emma Weyant He has already competed in at least one Olympic Games.
