The tech industry has long positioned itself as a field where ambitious employees can earn high salaries and have an impact on the workplace, but in recent years, the luster of these jobs has faded.

In a recent analysis Fullstack Academy The company, which trains tech workers in areas including coding, cybersecurity and data analytics, found that when employees of major tech companies review their previous employers on Glassdoor, their ratings are often critical.

This is especially true when it comes to work-life balance. Keywords like “burnout” [appearing] According to Fullstack, “‘health’ keywords are used 73% more in the cons section than health-related keywords such as ‘healthy’ in the ‘pros’ section.”

The analysis comes at a time of increasing uncertainty in the technology economy. Tech industry layoffs have been on the rise over the past three years, with Tesla, Google and Microsoft all announcing workforce cuts. A recent study found that more than 60,000 jobs have been cut from the industry already this year. TechCrunch analysis.

In addition to widespread layoffs, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic uncertainty have caused many workers to reprioritize their career expectations. Best Jobs of 2024 According to the report, only three of the top 25 jobs were technology jobs, down from 11th place just a year ago.

To assess the quality of life for employees at major tech companies, Fullstack Academy analyzed reviews of over 100 major tech companies, including over 250 Glassdoor reviews. Negative reviews tended to mention long hours, burnout, and feeling overworked, while positive feedback was given to companies that offer remote work and paid time off.

“Overall, only 52% of frequently reviewed large tech companies have good or very good work-life balance,” Fullstack’s analysis states. “While this percentage is slightly better than the 40% of all companies analyzed that were rated as good or very good, it still shows that even high-profile tech companies are still struggling to achieve this balance.”

Here are the five companies with the best and five with the worst work-life balance, according to Fullstack Academy’s analysis.
