More than 2.7 million Singaporeans can check their names on the voters’ roll from Tuesday, ahead of a general election this year called by new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
The revised list was approved on Sunday and will be made available to the public from Tuesday, Channel News Asia reported, citing the Electoral Department (ELD).
Wong, who took office on May 15, had instructed the ELD to revise the voters’ register and complete the revision by July 31.
Singapore’s last general election was held on July 10, 2020, and the next one is scheduled to be held by November 2025.
But political observers expect the election to be held later this year given the early preparations, and have urged Singapore voters to check their names on the voters’ roll.
The names of voters who did not vote in the last general election will be suspended.
The total number of registered voters is 2,715,187, up from 2,709,407 eligible voters to vote in the 2023 presidential election held last September.
In the last general election in 2020, there were 2,651,435 registered voters.
According to the ELD, 10 overseas polling stations will be set up in Beijing, Canberra, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Tokyo and Washington DC to allow Singaporeans living overseas to vote.
