President Trump calls for national unity

“This is a chance to bring the whole country and even the whole world together. The speech will be completely different from what it was two days ago,” he said.
The convention speech is expected to be watched by tens of millions of viewers in prime time, and strategists see it as a rare chance to reshape the former president’s image and make him more appealing to moderate voters.
Campaign staffers said the near-death experience prompted Trump to revise his acceptance speech to emphasize inclusivity rather than attacks on Biden’s Democrats.

In contrast to the divisions that have rocked the Democratic Party, the convention showed Republican unity, with former rivals such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley giving strong endorsements to Trump’s candidacy.

Two days after being named Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio introduced himself to voters for the first time. “The heart of America still has talent and courage to offer. But for these places to thrive, we need leaders who will fight for the people who built this country,” he said.

Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, also took the stage to support her husband’s running for vice president. “When JD met me, he approached our differences with curiosity and enthusiasm. That JD and I were able to meet, much less fall in love and marry, is a testament to our great country,” she said.
