The Texas Tech women’s track and field team competed on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The girls team entered the national tournament ranked No. 8 in the country, according to Tech Athletics, and Tech competed in four sports.

Tech started the day with the women’s 4×100 relay competition, which qualified for Saturday’s finals. The team placed fifth overall and finished in 42.95 seconds, third-best time in Tech history, according to the Tech Athletics Department. The women’s 4×100 team features seniors Rosemary Chukwuma and Serena Clark, and juniors Alyssa Colbert and Success Umukoro.

Chukwuma advanced to Saturday’s final for the third consecutive year in the women’s 100 meters. Chukwuma placed sixth overall with a time of 11.16 seconds. Colbert missed the cut by 0.001 seconds to place 10th in 11.18 seconds (11.175 seconds). Umukoro placed 20th in 11.32 seconds.

Freshman Juliette Cherbet missed qualifying by 0.07 seconds in the women’s 1,500-meter event but placed 12th in her race and was named to the All-American second team with a time of 4:09.98. Cherbet will compete in the women’s 5-kilometer final on Saturday.

Sophomore Naomi Krebs and junior Destiny Smith competed in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles event, placing 20th and 21st, respectively. Krebs finished in 13.21 seconds and Smith in 13.49 seconds.

All statistics from Day 2 of the NCAA Outdoor National Championships can be found on the Tech Athletics website.
