LHASA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a gala marking the 60th founding anniversary of Xizang Autonomous Region in the regional capital Lhasa Wednesday evening.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, joined people of all ethnic groups in Xizang to watch the gala entitled “Joyful Songs of the Snowy Plateau Region.”

The gala is structured in three parts. The first part depicts the vibrant efforts in building a socialist new Xizang. The second part showcases the dynamism brought by reform and opening up to the snowy plateau while the final part presents a prosperous and happy new Xizang.

Senior leaders including Wang Huning and Cai Qi also watched the gala.

Xi led a central delegation to arrive in Lhasa earlier Wednesday for the anniversary celebration activities. ■
