URUMQI, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping left Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Beijing on Thursday after attending events in celebration of the autonomous region’s 70th founding anniversary.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was given a warm send-off by people of all ethnic groups who lined the streets waving red flags in the city proper of Urumqi, the regional capital, and danced joyfully at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport.
Instructed by Xi, a central delegation headed by Wang Huning will visit various places of Xinjiang and convey greetings to people of all ethnic groups and from all sectors of society from Thursday to Sunday.
Xi’s entourage, including senior official Cai Qi, returned by the same flight. ■
