The design market is a dynamic one, influenced by social, economic and fashion changes. Parallels between the design and fashion worlds have arisen periodically over the years and have become closer as time goes on. The fashion world, fuelled by capsule collections that provided a platform for top and young designers and continue to do so today, had a similar impact on the design world.
International brands such as Cassina, Kartell present collections designed by international super designers such as Patricia Urquiola, the Burlak brothers, and hygiene brands such as Hans Groy constantly present unique collections by designers such as Antonio Chitoli, Philippe Starck, and others. In Israel, too, this trend is taking root in the world of design. Although not exactly the same as on the international stage, there are collaborations where designers and architects design products that bear their name, or companies manufacture details and products specified for them for specific projects. In the field of doors, Rav Bariach opens a window to this world, regularly collaborating with designers and architects who deserve to leave their mark. The review presented here will allow you to understand the trends in the door field and their impact on the door market, as well as the adjustments that Rav Bariach regularly makes, listening to the public and being aware of the various changes.
Capsule Collection
Understanding and promoting the connection between fashion and design, Rav Bariach is constantly fusing these two worlds. This review will highlight the connection between these two worlds. At the same time, the open attitude within the company to allow architectural requirements to be reflected in the finished product is also highly praised. Just recently, in a luxury project for Azorim EXCHANGE, a unique window frame was designed for the offices of architect and interior designer Dana Oberzon. The product was specially developed at the architect’s request and is a type of haute couture interior door.
For many years, we have been working carefully with architects and interior designers, inviting them to design and plan our door collections. As part of this, from time to time, collections are presented that are the result of collaboration with architects. As part of this, design and planning competitions are held in which local architects and interior designers participate. For example, the capsule collection developed in collaboration with “Designer” is one of our most famous and successful collaborations. At the beginning of every process of planning a collection that combines an audience of designers and interior designers, we make a call and manage the competition in a way that combines the opinion of the public with that of a jury of experts in the field of design. The final product combines creativity and innovative thinking, highlighting practical and functional elements.
Wide and high opening
The trend in the door sector combines a minimalist look with wider dimensions, as consumers seek size and space. Moreover, wider openings create the appearance of a larger space than the dimensions suggest, an illusion that modern architecture seeks to create, especially for size-restricted urban apartments. Against this background, the demand for wider and taller doors is constantly growing. Taller doors create a feeling of size, and wider doors intensify that very same feeling. Even today, the accepted standard for interior doors is 2.05 m in height, but the growing demand for 2.2 and 2.4 m heights, especially in central areas, sees these dimensions becoming a kind of new standard that today’s market demands.
Height is becoming more and more important, and so are doors that are designed to be especially wide in addition to being tall. This is a popular choice when planning master bedrooms or as entrances to work areas. Especially when it comes to entrance doors for detached houses, boutique apartments or buildings that want to create technical specifications with prestigious features, the division of the keys has changed. The traditional 1/3 and 2/3 division has been replaced by a wide key with one wide wing, or a wide key with two wings with the same division.
The zero-line doors, which were a trend in recent years, have also undergone a certain degree of standardization and are now part of a collection that is suitable for everyone, not just for the wealthy. The influence of wider dimensions has also reached these doors, and today we can see the trend of zero-line doors of any height, from floor to ceiling. The design of a unique door can only be done in our design department, our Design Center. It is important to understand that to actually realize this trend, the determination of the door dimensions must already be made at the planning stage. With zero-line doors and doors with special dimensions, the opening must be prepared in advance.
Colorful
The connection to nature is part of a broader trend that connects us to the natural world around us and encourages the use of basic raw materials in their natural, unprocessed form. The colour universe takes inspiration from this trend, referencing plants, sand, earth and grains as the basis for its diverse collection of colours.
Color is one of the elements most influenced by trends and can be adjusted quickly. The new fans we launched for front doors have seen a lot of adjustments, incorporating colors that represent a connection to nature, such as sage green, peaks green, stone, oat, linen gray, sand and greige. Adding shades to front door shade fans is a lengthy process that can take up to nine months, and in some cases even a year. Despite the lengthy process, we as a company choose to participate in the development process because we value alignment with trends dictated by the world at large and the design market in particular.
Interior doors can be painted in any shade you like, so they don’t have a dedicated fan like front doors. Another trend I would like to improve is the use of shades of white. The use of white is on the rise again and I expect this trend to strengthen. The handles will also be white, completing the perfect white look. The classic color combination of black and white will be further deepened. It’s a contrast combination that makes the product stand out: a black door on a black wall, a black handle that looks like a jewel on a white door, etc.
Jewel-like handle
Rav Bariacci launched his collection of jewellery-like handles almost two years ago. The collection’s huge success coincided with a trend at the time that highlighted the connection between design and fashion, a connection that has only grown stronger since then. We live in an era where anything is possible. Whereas previously people wore checks and stripes separately, in the columns of VOUGE, clothes combining the two patterns and colours that were previously considered a no-no are now seen and respected.
The legitimacy that combinations have gained has also flowed into the field of residential design, mainly in the field of ceramics and textiles. There are not many options for doors, but being conscious of the desire to add and combine can make them stand out, such as the combination of ornaments, gold stripes and richly designed handles, placing a black door on a white wall, thereby highlighting intriguing connections and combinations. Handles allow you to connect to trends and change them every few years as trends change. In addition to interior handles that look like exquisite jewelry, it can be said that there is an increasing demand for front doors with pull handles. More and more customers are asking for elongated or semicircular handles that allow them to pull the door open. The question of whether less is better or more is a fundamental and important question to ask as part of the construction of your design vision, with the aim of making your choice more precise and creating a complete and toned look.
Smart Door
Rav Bariach recognized the need for smart doors more than five years ago. At the time, the product was mainly purchased by first adopters. Today, the justification for such a move is clear: new construction incorporates smart doors as an almost integral part of the technical details. Consumers are accustomed to turning on their boilers and air conditioners from their cars, and with that mindset, they will remotely lock and unlock the doors of their homes, whether for themselves, or for cleaners, children, or couriers bringing expensive packages that need to be stored inside the house.
Technology has developed in this area, giving rise to a more advanced and intuitive generation. Today, you can open your door with a smart button, a remote control, your fingerprint, or simply by telling Siri or Google, “Open the door.”
